DESIGN agency The Engine Room has secured a business loan from Finance Yorkshire to help it expand.

Darren Evans, founder and design director at the Huddersfield company, said: "Running a design company is a tough game, but we've managed to survive and prosper over the last couple of years by honing our focus to just two key areas for our clients; the first is differentiation and the second is return on investment.

"Our turnover has increased, our export sales have risen from 0% to 25% and our staff numbers have doubled in less than 18 months."

A DESIGN company in Huddersfield has been shortlisted for one of the industry’s most prestigious prizes.
The Engine Room Design Co Ltd is in the running for honours in the Design Effectiveness Awards, presented by The Design Business Association. The awards recognise the role of effective design plays in the in the creation of business.
A design and brand agency in Huddersfield has picked up a prestigious prize.
The Engine Room, based at the Media Centre in Northumberland Street, won a Silver Design Effectiveness Award at the 2013 Design Business Association Awards, hosted by BBC business correspondent Simon Jack, at The Brewery in London.

Creative businesses are taking further steps to get Huddersfield's innovative Studio School up and running.
Darren Evans of The Engine Room was joined by another brand agency from Huddersfield and Birstall-based PMG Print Management at the employer's forum.

Mr Evans said 'There are too many accountants in charge of businesses. We need more creative entrepreneurs and business leaders' As a result of the forum, the Studio School will progress their placement & experience proposition further with a sample of students.

The Engine Room Gents raise £520 for Movember and cancer research!

The guys at design and branding agency The Engine Room can usually be relied on to know a thing or two about style, but when it comes to supporting charity, they're ready to abandon good taste!

The whole team campaigned throughout the 4 weeks of Movember, previously known as November, and managed to raise a lip-tickling £520 for The Institute of Cancer Research.
